Why 5 Tool?

By Shannon Clark

5 Tool offers what no other facility truly does: prioritizing your athlete above all else.

By using data-driven analysis, 5 Tool customizes every athlete’s training plan to fit their strengths and weaknesses. Our 1:1 coaching allows athletes to dive deep into the mechanics of their skills to build and maintain a strong foundation as they move forward in their career. At 5 Tool, we are developing self-aware, intentional baseball players with a wide skillset. We don’t just support your athlete through one season like a club team: we support them by keeping their long term goals in mind.

With that, we recognize the importance of keeping our athletes healthy. We want to keep our athletes on the field, so Injury prevention is a huge part of our training. Director of Strength and Conditioning Dylan McNary explains, “we are able to acknowledge that injuries are not preventable, but we can reduce the risk of injury by smart training decisions.”

This circles back to the data-driven training and the holistic athlete approaches 5 Tool employs. By measuring an athlete’s initial strength - both in baseball performance and in the gym - with some of our advanced technologies, we’re able to determine where the athlete is at the greatest risk for injury and take actions to limit those risks. Director of Technology Justin Nappi details more, saying, “at 5 Tool, we use different technologies like Hawkin Dynamics, Trackman, Hittracks, Blastmotion, and some other technologies to employ a modern approach to player development.”

Arm care is another crucial aspect to injury prevention, particularly for our pitchers. “Overusing your arm or other parts of your body to try to generate velocity is a surefire way to get injured. So even though arm care can sometimes be a hassle, it is so important to keep us healthy,” says pitching coach Keegan Antelman.

Aside from injury prevention, 5 Tool values that each athlete is slightly different in their own way. From learning styles to approaches, athletes come to us from all different backgrounds. We respect each athlete’s individuality, while simultaneously introducing new approaches they may not have encountered yet to help theories click.

Most importantly though, our staff is unmatched. Our coaches have vast experience in the baseball realm from coaching college teams to playing themselves. Their understanding of playing in this era of baseball helps them to connect with the players they’re coaching to form a genuine relationship based on respect and trust. Director of Hitting Pat D’Amico describes the relationship as, “we really care about our guys; they’ve got our phone numbers, they can call us whenever they want, send us video whenever they want.”
